Head teacher's Blog 25.03.24

24th March 2024

Here we are heading into the last week of the term, two thirds of the way through the academic year! A reminder that we finish on Thursday at three o’clock and return to school on Monday 15th April. Tic Toc is open throughout the holiday from Tuesday 2nd April.

There’s lots to look back on from last week, it was a busy one! Year 1s certainly did have Fun with Numbers on Thursday morning and there was a bumper number of parents and family members to share in this. Thanks to all who came along and especially to Mr Rose, Mrs Smith and Mr Fordham-Scott for leading the session.

Bikeability was a great success and saw lots of our year 5s out and about on the roads, developing the skills needed to stay safe.

Willow class treated us to an excellent assembly on Thursday afternoon with fabulous story telling of the legend of Freya and the Necklace. Thanks to family and friends who joined us for this.

Our UKS2 mixed football team took part in an NUF football tournament at Alnwick Town Juniors Football Club on Thursday afternoon. Despite the gale force winds, the team played some attractive football and were unfortunate not to progress to the semi-finals, finishing with one win, one draw and a loss. Well done to all the players and thanks to Chris Rose and Sheila Imeson for accompanying and encouraging the children.

Children in Years 1-4 thoroughly enjoyed the performance of The Selfish Giant on Friday morning thanks to Image Musical Theatre and their two wonderful performers who were ably assisted by our very own children to bring the story to life. We were also joined for this event by  Branton Primary School. We are enjoying building links with our friends over at Branton, it’s great that both schools have resources that can be shared for mutual benefit!  Look out for pictures on the school website.

Let’s take a look at the last jam packed week of the spring term:

  • There are no teacher led clubs on this week but masterclasses will take place with English on Monday and maths on Tuesday

  • Reception will be having Fun with Numbers on Monday morning. Mr Fordham-Scott will have the kettle on from 08.45 and the session will start at 09.15.

  • Maple class assembly is at 14.30 on Monday afternoon and friends and family are warmly welcomed to come and join us.

  • Reception to Year 2 spring assembly is at 09.45 on Wednesday, please note that this event is by invitation for families of prize winners and choir members.

  • Choir will be visiting the Alnwick Gardens at 13.00 on Wednesday to sing for the Elderberries Easter party.

  • FOSP Easter bingo is at 17.00 on Wednesday. If you haven’t already bought your tickets for this event, please do so. It’ll be great fun and a lovely end to the term.

  • Years 3-6 will have their spring assembly on Thursday at 14.15. Please note that this event is by invitation for families of  prize winners and choir members.

  • Look out for the new summer lunch menu early in the week. Tina and Nicola enjoyed their focus group with children from across school who gave some useful feedback and even had a few treats to sample!

We have a brand new group of stars of the week to tell you about. A big well done goes to:

Theo Brown, Ffion Read, Elbie Raine, Jake Fordham-Scott, Jessica Angus, Georgia McVey, Kamil Jankowski, Tiana Cairns,  Brydon Armstrong and the whole of Willow class (Mrs Smith couldn’t choose after your fabulous assembly!). We are very proud of you all.

Let’s hope for a sunny week to get us ready for the Easter break.  Here’s a spring-like tune to get us all in the mood. I hope you all have a great holiday.
