Week 2: Monday 30th March

Monday 30th March 2020

Hi everyone,

I hope you, your family and friends are keeping well! I know for me the last week has been very strange but I would love to hear about what you have been getting up to. I loved looking at the 'Alfred the Great' presentations that you shared with me and also receiving pictures of science experiments and models you have created. Also, a big well done to those people who completed the challenge on TTR - you truly rock!

Home learning tasks for keeping busy this week are as follows:

English

Chestnut Class acted out of the story of Freya and the Goblins when we were visited by Hrothgar a few weeks ago. If you google search BBC Viking Sagas, Part 1 and 2 of this saga can be found. They are very child friendly, easy to follow and quite funny too! As part of our English for the rest of this term, the focus is 'letter writing'. I would like the children to have a go at pretending to be a character from Freya and the Goblins and writing to another character. Here are some scenarios you could use:

 - Freya writing to her husband Odur persuading him to return home.

 - King Odin writing to Freya to say of how disappointed he is in her behaviour.

 - Freya writing to King Odur persuading him to take the necklace.

 - Loki writing to Heimdall explaining what he was trying to do in helping Freya and why.

These are just suggestions. The children may have their own ideas. The children may want to type this up and email it to me. It would be great to see their work!

Science:

If you can, complete one of the science experiments from the website below:

https://telusworldofscienceedmonton.ca/explore/experiences/science-home/

Before you start, can you write down your predictions (what do you think will happen) and then when you have finished, can you write your conclusion (what did you find out).

Maths:

  •          Times Table Rockstars Challenge ~ complete ten ‘Garage’ sessions.

White Rose Activities

Follow the links to watch the short tutorial lessons and then complete the first two activities. Don’t worry about printing the activity sheets off, you can just do them with paper and a pen!

Extra bits and bobs:

  • David Walliams is sharing an audio story on his website every day at 11am ( https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/ ). Listen along and if you fancy it, you could write a review of the story or re-tell it in your own words!
