Coronavirus Closure - General Information for Parents
Dear Parents and Carers,
COVID-19 - Home Learning for children in Year 5 and Year 6
Your child has been provided with a pack of work to complete during our school closure. The pack contains a selection of Reading, SPaG and Maths activities. As I’m sure you’ll agree, it is important that all children continue to engage with daily learning tasks with the aim of consolidating and securing the knowledge, skills and understanding that they have worked so hard to develop throughout the last two terms.
Class teachers will communicate with children and parents via the school website: www.swansfield.northumberland.sch.uk in the form of a weekly blog. This will be found within your child’s class page. Details of the home learning tasks that need to be completed each week will be outlined along with additional resources that can be used to support the children.
Weekly home learning tasks for children in Years 5 and 6 will include a set of spellings, a selection of work for English and Maths as well as the expectation that all children access Times Table Rockstars to complete their allocated sessions.
It is also important that your child reads as much as possible across a number of genres each week. Please take the time to discuss the texts that your child is reading as well as identify pieces of vocabulary that they may not understand.
Should you or your child need to contact class teachers regarding the home learning tasks, this can be done so using the following School360 email addresses:
Rowan / Larch: charlotte.murdy@school360.co.uk and jacqueline.oconnell1@school360.co.uk
As I’m sure you will appreciate, this is an evolving situation and we as a school receive updated guidance on a daily basis. We will continue to update you as necessary and thank you for your co-operation.
Kind regards,
The Upper Key Stage Two Team
This page has been created to support parents during COVID-19 and the closure of schools. Each fortnight, Thinkuknow will be releasing new home activity packs with simple 15 minute activities that parents can do with their children to support their online safety at a time when they will be spending more time online at home.
The book answers key questions in simple language appropriate for 5 to 9 year olds:
• What is the coronavirus?
• How do you catch the coronavirus?
• What happens if you catch the coronavirus?
• Why are people worried about catching the coronavirus?
• Is there a cure for the coronavirus?
• Why are some places we normally go to closed?
• What can I do to help?
• What’s going to happen next?
