Blog 13th December

A huge well done to all the children from Mrs Vicky, Sheila and me!  We thought that all of the children were fabulous in our Sleepy Shepherd production.   We were really sad that some Plum Class friends were poorly and didn’t make it to the play.  We missed you!

Plum Class has been a hive of activity this week with our Christmas preparations well underway.  We’ve been making some wonderful Christmas crafts that we’ll bring home at the end of next week.   The children have been ordering events from the Nativity story and re-telling this in their own words.   The children have also helped to make a class Nativity scene which is on display and looking fabulous.

In other work, we’ve been exploring evergreen leaves this week.  We’ve discovered many evergreen plants growing within our school grounds and we’ve compared the leaves on these plants with those of deciduous plants.  The children loved using the words evergreen and deciduous as they explored.  We discovered that evergreen leaves are exceptionally strong and many feel quite shiny.  We also discovered that some evergreen plants have needles rather than leaves.  I wonder if you can spot some evergreens over the weekend.

In their free play, the children have enjoyed spending time in our Plum Class Christmas house and in our Santa’s Grotto in the shed.  They have cooked Christmas dinners, written lists and wrapped presents just to name a few things.  Additionally, the children have enjoyed creating with our Christmas spiced play doh.  They have also been exploring our new light boxes. These are such fun to use as a base for constructions and designs along with our coloured plastic shapes and gems.  There was such imagination and creativity on show as the children played.

We squeezed in a little bit of maths earlier on in the week by learning to subtract with a number line.  We had to take away by jumping backwards with our finger.   You could have a go at practising this at home.  The really important thing to remember is to jump off the first number.

Don’t forget that there are many events still to come next week.

It’s Christmas lunch and party on Wednesday and children are invited to come to school wearing their party clothes.  Please be mindful that children will be playing outside so sensible footwear is a must!  Then it’s our annual Christingle on Thursday at 2.00pm.  Everyone is welcome to join us in St Paul’s church.  Children will be picked up back at school following this event.

This will be the last blog post for this year.

I do hope that you all have a great Christmas holiday and I look forward to lots more hard work and achievement with your children in 2020.
